The cariocas usually say that Niterói's biggest attraction is the view of Rio de Janeiro.

Jokes aside, the truth is that, besides the view of the Wonderfull City - indeed very beautiful - Niterói has much more to offer.

The city has nationaly and internationaly known post cards like MAC - Niterói's contemporary art museum, the Caminho Niemeyer and João Caetano municipal theater but one of our city's most notable features is the hospitality of it's people. This is such an outstanding feature that Niterói is now known as Smile City.

Niterói also has paradisiacal beaches, diverse night life and a thriving cultural scene all of which are part of it's inhabitants daily routine.

We have listed two rides, one by bus and one by ferry, that show a little of our citys's atmosphere.

Linha Turismo
Every saturday, sunday and national hollidays there's a tourist bus that has a very special itinerary: all of Guanabara bay's shoreline, through the Boa Viagem, Icaraí, São Francisco, Charitas and Jurujuba beaches arriving at the beautiful Santa Cruz fortress.

Barca Turística
A ferry ride in the Guanabara bay takes tourist groups to see some of the most beautiful spots of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. Some of the highlights are the Corcovado, the Sugar Loaf, the Santa Cruz fortress, the Museu da Arte Contemporânea (MAC), the Ponte Rio-Niterói and the Ilha Fiscal.

This ferry ride costs R$ 12,00 and leaves Niterói's ferry stations on sundays, except the last sunday of each month at 9:30 AM.

On the last sunday of each month up to december 2008, the ferry ride gives place to the 'Chorinho na Barca' event.
